Gaushala at Geeta Dham – Preserving India’s Indigenous Cow Breeds
- Founded with a mission to serve, protect, and sustainably develop Indian cow breeds
- Established under Gurudev’s vision, the Gaushala follows modern scientific livestock management practices to act as a replicable sustainability model for small and marginal farmers in surrounding rural areas
Scientific Collaboration & Breed Improvement
- In 2016, a technical collaboration was formalized with BAIF Development Research Foundation, a nationally reputed institution committed to sustainable rural livelihoods through livestock development.
- A THARPARKAR Artificial Insemination (AI) Breeding Centre Laboratory was established at Geeta Dham.
- A 12-year structured herd improvement program is actively monitored through quarterly visits by veterinarians and livestock specialists.
Sustainable Fodder & Nutrition Management
- Plantation and Nutrition experts from their Central Research Station ( CRS), Urli Kanchan visit our site to prescribe Innovative plantation plans specific to the arid location and nutritious, cost-effective Diet Plans based on local availability
- Hydroponic varieties are increasingly being used.
Herd Size & Animal Welfare
- The Gaushala is home to nearly 600 cows, the majority being non-milking animals, all of whom are cared for throughout their natural lifespan.
- A dedicated team of 16 trained Gopalans, including a technically qualified Livestock Assistant, manages daily operations.
- Segregated living spaces are provided based on age, gender, and health category.
Health Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
- Specialized interventions are carried out for animals with health challenges, sluggish growth, or complicated pregnancies—often resulting in successful revival and recovery.
- Milk productivity and management parameters are continuously monitored to maintain quality and efficiency.
Milk Utilization & Community Benefit
- Primary milk production is used to nourish hostel students and staff children at Geeta Dham.
- Surplus milk is collected by donors engaged in milk distribution ventures, ensuring zero wastage.
Circular Economy & Value-Added Initiatives
- Cow dung (Gobar) is processed into Vermi Compost and biogas, which is used for cooking in the Students’ Mess.
- Discussions are ongoing with manufacturers for distilled cow urine–based products, including the establishment of a Urine Distillation Plant.
- The Gaushala aims to continuously enhance revenue streams through Milk, Vermi Compost, Gobar-Urine Manure, and Distilled Urine by partnering with marketing agencies.
Funding & Support
- All Gaushala operations are supported entirely through voluntary donations.
- The largest recurring expense is fodder and animal nutrition.
- Capital investments are periodically required to expand infrastructure as the herd grows.
How You Can Support

- Cow care & fodder sponsorship

Adopt a Cow
There are devotees who like to be associated through Gau Seva on a continuous basis. Therefore, we have introduced the ‘Adopt a Cow’ scheme as follows:
- To start with, we will put up for adoption Adult female calves in the age group 2-3 years. This is the most critical phase in the development of Milch Cows.
- We provide a separate shelter for their care and nourishment needs.
- We will assign a name to each adopted one and identify it suitably.
- A devotee can adopt one or more of them.
- Adoption would mean that the devotee’s donation would be used to defray the cost of upkeep, including food & fodder & vet treatment.
- Since costs are substantial, we may need to accredit an “Adopted Cow” to several devotees.
- The minimum Donation for adoption of 1 calf, for 1 year, shall be Rs 10,000/ USD 200.
- Donations can be made to the designated bank accounts, specifying the donation is for “Adopt a Cow” scheme.
- Coordinator for this scheme will be : Shri NIRANJAN KUMAR (email : admingd@geetadhamtinwari.in)
